2/4/18 - Bus Tours of the National Lakeshore

West-Beach-Dunes-Sucession-Trail-winterJoin a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore from 9:00 am to 11:00 am or 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for a two-hour tour of the national park in one of our heated, 15-passenger buses. This is a great way to see the park’s amazing winter landscapes without getting cold.

The tours meet at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, which is located at 1215 North State Road 49 in Porter, Indiana. After a brief introduction, participants will board a bus for a two-hour tour, during which the ranger will share interesting facts about the national park and the surrounding area.

The tours are free, but reservations are required. Bus tours of the park will also be offered on March 25th. These tours fill up quickly. Call 219-395-1882 to make reservations and to find out more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

2/10/18 - Birding with the Indiana Audubon Society

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore birding with Audubon SocietyJoin birding expert and Indiana Audubon Society Executive Director Brad Bumgardner from 8am to 10am for his monthly birding series. Meet at the Visitor Center and car pool to the birding spot of the month. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Actual types of birds sighted can vary and are based on recent sightings of the previous week to determine what locations to visit.

2/17/18 - Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing Enjoy a snowshoe hike from 1pm to 3pm on a trail outside the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Visitor Center. Snowshoes are provided for free.

Learn a little bit about nature in winter and how to explore its beauty wearing snowshoes. Join a ranger at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center for a brief indoor program on winter and the use of snowshoes. Then, get a chance to try out some snowshoes on a ranger-led hike through the fields and woods surrounding the center. A limited number of snowshoes are provided or you are welcome to bring your own. If there is not enough snow for snowshoeing, we will offer a traditional hike instead.
