5/28/17 - Bailly Homestead & Chellberg Farm Open House

Bailly Chellberg Open House Indiana DunesBetween 1:30 - 4:00 p.m., tour the interiors of the historic Chellberg Farmhouse and Bailly Homestead where you can learn about the lives of early Duneland farm families. Park in the Chellberg/Bailly parking lot and walk to the Chellberg Farmhouse.

The Chellberg/Bailly parking lot is on Mineral Springs Road between U.S. 20 and Highway 12 in Porter, Indiana. Every Saturday - Douglas Center Open House

Douglas Center Enjoy fun, family-friendly activities at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Paul H. Douglas Center every Saturday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Then, take the kids outside to the center’s Nature Play Zone where unstructured play in nature is encouraged. You can also help feed the center’s resident turtles and fish or join a ranger for a hike in the beautiful Miller Woods.

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is located in the western portion of the national lakeshore at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12. Nature Tots Program - Second Wednesday of every month

Nature Tot ProgramParents and toddlers are invited to participate in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s new Nature Tot's program at the Douglas Center for Environmental Education. Nature Tots, aged 2-4, will learn about nature through a ranger-led story time, crafts and outdoor play. Parents will enjoy meeting other parents and learning fun ideas for bringing nature into their child’s life.

This program will be held every second Wednesday of the month, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

Every Third Friday - Music Heritage Series

Music Heritage SeriesJoin the Save the Tunes Council and share in the celebration of old time music. Tune up your vocal cords for a sing-along and gather up on every third Friday of the month, except for April when it has been moved to April 25, from 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Visitor Center.

The Save the Tunes Council is a group of local musicians devoted to preserving and passing on folk songs in the traditional way, using a variety of musical instruments including guitar, autoharp, dulcimer, banjo, harmonica, bagpipe, penny whistle, hurdy gurdy, and other obscure instruments.
